About Us

Environmental Policy

Situated in 210 acres of parkland within a Unesco Biosphere Reserve, Highbullen Hotel and Country Club is continually striving to develop its Eco structure in a more environmentally sensitive and sustainable manner.

Conservation

BiospereBiosphere Reserves are places with world-class environments that are designated by the United Nations to promote and demonstrate a balanced relationship between people and nature. They are places where conservation and nature go hand in hand. North Devon is a Reserve because of its blend of special landscapes and wildlife areas, rich cultural heritage and communities that care about it and want to sustain it into the future.

Eco-friendly

RecycleHighbullen fully subscribes to the objectives of the Reserve and is a keen contributor towards recycling, composting and energy efficiency. We aim to decrease any negative impacts we have on our stunning surroundings to ensure that Highbullen is a high quality, environmentally sensitive operation.

Sustainable

SapplingThe restaurant will shortly be provided with produce provided by the Highbullen vegetable garden.  Further vegetables, meat, fish and other products and services will be sourced locally to reduce our carbon footprint. During the last ten years the Estate has planted many hundreds of trees and this process continues.

Our policy in 7 steps

  • To identify the impact of any of Highbullen's activities on the environment on the basis that a sustainable approach to tourism is essential for the environment.
  • To develop suitable objectives, targets and programmes to minimise our environmental impact.
  • To comply with all relevant legislation and regulations relating to environmental impact.
  • To prevent pollution and minimise our inputs of utilities and resources and the outputs to sewers and water disposal facilities; endeavouring to recycle materials wherever possible.
  • To ensure that environmental responsibilities are defined, communicated and understood at all levels within our organisation.
  • To ensure that all contractors understand our ethos and assist in developing appropriate environmentally sensitive systems.
  • To strive for continual improvement in overall environmental performance.
