Gardens
Award winning landscape designer, Julie Johnson has begun the task of restoring the original gardens to the Arts and Crafts Mansion. Formal gardens will also be created below the house including a Wedding Garden for celebrations and ceremonies. An octagonal herb garden with a Gazebo as the centre piece will provide a tranquil retreat as well as fresh herbs for the kitchen.
Grow your own for the green fingered!
Further out, on the edge of the estate, a vegetable garden and orchard will provide fruit and vegetables for the restaurant kitchens and hopefully in the future our Highbullen hens will be providing our own eggs! You'll be able to come and learn how to grow vegetables with our green fingered gardeners. Keep an eye on the newsletter (sign up by clicking the link in the main menu) and blog for more information coming soon!
Healing gardens and landscapes at Highbullen
Julie is working closely with the spa designers to produce a therapeutic environment both inside and out. Healing gardens have long been a tradition in monasteries and hospitals and it is Julie's intention to create havens of tranquillity within the Highbullen Estate. Healing hotels are very popular in The United States and mainland Europe but are rare in the UK. Highbullen's setting offers so much in terms of unwinding and provides a wonderful relief from the stresses of everyday life. Visit the exquisite gardens of RHS Rosemoor
Julie is working closely with Chris Taylor in the creation of nature trails as well as sculpture trails. North Devon is full of beautiful gardens including close at hand RHS Rosemoor with its wide range of events and workshops. Whilst Julie is restoring Highbullen's gardens to their former glory, why not visit one of the wonderful gardens on our "Attractions" page or join our special offer House and Garden Tour. For those wishing to venture further afield, a trip to the stunning contemporary gardens of the Eden Project is well worth the drive.
Get planting in our arboretum
Since 1992 over 11,000 trees have been planted at Highbullen. Why not commemorate a wedding or other special occasion by planting a tree and helping the environment.
